Pupils from Glenaire Primary School in Baildon are gearing up for the Olympic Torch Relay parade on Sunday in City Park.

The children have been making their own torches, posters and mascots, and will be among more than 1,000 schoolchildren taking part in the special events which will mark the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Bradford.

A total of 35 schools will take part in a parade around City Park, with events in the park beginning from 1pm. The Torch relay itself is expected to arrive at Manchester Road at about 2.40pm and go to City Park, before heading through the city centre and out to Manningham.

More activities are due to take place in Lister Park with various sports on offer from 1pm.

From Bradford the Torch relay will head to Keighley, Skipton and then Ilkley on day 37 of the flame’s 70-day tour around the UK.

To ensure the flame passes through smoothly, Bradford Council will impose parking restrictions from 6am on the day and road closures about 30 minutes before the torch arrives.

The authority is urging as many people as possible to walk or travel by public transport to ease congestion. Anyone who wants more information about the torch coming to Bradford can visit bradfordgold.com.
