Those who will carry the flame through Bradford are: 70-year-old Chiun-Ping Peng originally from Taoyuan City in Taiwan; Mu-Piao Shih, 59 from Taipei in Taiwan; Ben Cropper, 21, from Leeds; Jamie Brown, 18, from Bradford; Khalil Hussain, 38, from Bradford; Lucy Speakman, 38, from Manchester; Philippa Millage, 31, from Dumfries; Steve Newell, 46, from Ilkley; Thomas Stokes, 20, from Bradford; and Yolanda Bowler, 53, from Wetherby.

Mr Brown, of Edgerton Grove, Allerton, is a star swimmer and it was his dedication to the sport and getting children interested in the London 2012 Games that led to him being chosen to carry the Olympic torch through the city. He has been a member of the City of Bradford Swimming Club for four years and was chosen to be an Olympics ambassador two years ago, going round primary schools to raise interest in the Games and encourage pupils to become more active.

Mr Hussain is an inclusion officer at Springwood Community Primary School and has been helping the community since the age of 13.

He grew up in Manningham and carries out a huge number of roles within the community, such as founding a youth club, coaching sports and founding the Manningham Allstars football team.

Mr Newell is a company director and was chosen by organisers of the London 2012 Games after helping raise around £10,000 for various causes by competing in triathlons.

The father-of-two was nominated by colleagues at Spooner Industries.

Mr Stokes, of Little Horton, has dedicated himself to voluntary work and earned his place as an Olympic torchbearer as a result. He was nominated by One In A Million, a charity based at Bradford City Football Club providing for children in deprived areas, whom he has volunteered with for seven years.

Torchbearers carrying the flame through Brighouse are: Bambang Pamungkas, 32, from Jakarta in Indonesia; Dixie Dixon, 33, from South Yorkshire; Hannah Cockroft, 19, from Halifax; James Nichols, 31, from Manchester; Joanne Kempley, 22, from Huddersfield; Rebecca Bell, 23, from Halifax; Saira Tabasum, 21, from Bradford.

Miss Tabasum is a female boxer, who was a student of Bradford College’s Boxing Academy, which won a prestigious award, receiving the Inspire mark – the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme which recognises projects inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The people selected to bear the Olympic torch through Ilkley are: Richard Milner, 38, from Leeds; Margaret Cook, 74, from Ilkley; and Timothy Wilkinson, 50, Leeds.

Mrs Cook has been recognised for her work championing the rights of the underprivileged – and particularly women and children – across the world. The former nurse was nominated by former President of the Soroptimists, Anne Mary Inglehearn.

Her work with the organisation has taken her all over the world over the past 20 years, most recently Sierra Leone where the Soroptimists have helped teenage mothers, vulnerable families and street children to improve their lives.

Those who will take the flame through Keighley are: Catherine Bull, 24, from Leeds; Jerry Ward, 52, from Northwich; Rodger Davies, 58 from Manchester.

And the Skipton torchbearers are: Aimee Lindley, 19, Keyingham; Arthur Cockcroft, 88, from Leeds; Elisha Jagger, 12, from Halifax; Haroon Akram, 36, from Rochdale; Tor Hughes, 12, from Woodford.
