A man has died after falling head first down the stairs of a double-decker bus in Clayton.
The incident happened on the 636 Clayton to Bradford Moor bus. It is believed the bus was stationary at the time, at the terminus at the top of The Avenue, and that the man was the last passenger to be getting off.
Paramedics were called by the bus driver following the incident at about 6.30pm on Monday.
They pronounced him dead where he had fallen.
The man, who has not yet been named but is believed to have been in his 50s, was said to have been in drink at the time he fell, said a police spokesman.
There were no suspicious circumstances and a cardiac arrest has been suspected, added the police spokesman.
The death has now been referred to the Bradford Coroner.
Both the bus company and a local councillor have expressed their sympathy to the man’s family.
