“We’re going on a bear hunt,” read Bradford Council chief executive Tony Reeves as he took part in an event to mark 20 years of Bookstart.
The scheme aims to inspire young children to read, and Mr Reeves was helping to do just that at Bingley Library this week, by reading the Michael Rosen book to children.
Other Council bosses are also encouraging a love of books among the district’s children. Barra Mac Ruairi, head of regeneration and culture, read to children at Wyke Library yesterday, and Tony Stephens, culture and tourism head, read to youngsters at Shipley Library.
Mr Reeves is also taking part in the Bookstart Pledge, which sees families committing to share 20 books over the year. He said: “This is a great opportunity to help our young residents foster a love of books and reading.”
