Bradford singer Kiki Dee was back in the district yesterday to help launch a book about the music scene here in the 1950s and 60s.

When Bradford Rocked, by Derek AJ Lister, chronicles Bradford groups from the period 1954 to 1966, and creates a flavour of the city at the time, with memories of dance halls, coffee bars and record shops.

Mr Lister was the singer with Dal Stevens and the Blue Jays and Dal Stevens and the Four Dukes, before becoming resident DJ at Bradford’s Gaumont and Majestic ballrooms.

Research for the book was aided by appeals in the Telegraph & Argus, which prompted more than 100 people to contact him.

Kiki Dee, who is among the acts featured, attended its launch at Bradford and Bingley Sports Club.

She said: “When Bradford Rocked is packed with stories about the musicians and performers starting out during this amazing time and tons of information about Bradford itself.”
