Ionian Weddings, a Greece specialist, says Greek islands can offer some amazing locations for fabulous overseas wedding ceremonies.

On Zante, couples love to get hitched on a secluded private island, accessed by a wooden bridge standing in clear turquoise waters.

A private island wedding from £5,100 includes wedding ceremony, full reception with wine, private beach hire, barbecue for 25 guests, five bottles of champagne, two-tier wedding cake, DJ for four hours and paperwork.

Cyprus, widely seen as the number one wedding destination for UK couples, the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, is hugely romantic, with lots of sandy beaches, quaint villages and manicured gardens to luxury hotels, historic churches and wine museums.

Another favourite for couples is the So White boutique hotel, near a sandy beach outside Ayia Napa. Marriage here, on a roof terrace, beach or under a gazebo overlooking the ocean, starts at £2,985 for an all-inclusive ceremony and reception package for 20 guests, with optional extras including photography, flowers and bridal hair.

How about a 17th century former monastery near Paphos? Ayii Anargyri, founded in 1649, is now an elegant spa haven, where guests can relish the healing properties of natural spring waters, and with ceremonies held either inside or outside the small chapel in the grounds.

The package from £3,380 for an all-inclusive ceremony includes a reception for 20 guests, photography, flowers, bridal hair and more.

Ionian Holidays also does wedding packages on Santorini, where you can exchange vows on a private area of the beach as the sun makes its descent over the Aegean Sea.

The package leads in at £4,543 and includes a private beach ceremony with buffet, cake, open bar for 25 guests, photographer, flowers, bridal hairdresser and full documentation service.
