More than 5,200 people are believed to be living with dementia in Bradford and Airedale, yet only just over half of those with the condition have been diagnosed.

Bradford District Care Trust is urging people to look out for symptoms and see their GP if they think they are experiencing the first signs of dementia.

The Trust is supporting Dementia Awareness Week, which runs from May 20 to 26.

Neil Bryson, the Trust’s head of operations for Older People’s Mental Health Services, said: “Although there is no cure for dementia, with an early diagnosis and the right support, individuals can improve their quality of life and help maintain their independence for longer.”

Dementia Awareness Week is supported by the Alzheimer’s Society in Bradford, which is holding events to promote wider awareness of dementia.

Tomorrow at Bradford University in the main atrium, in conjunction with Bradford Dementia group, there will be information on dementia and how to live with it.
