People living in the Bradford district are being encouraged to check their heart rate, in support of national Heart Rhythm Week.
The special week, which starts today, is part of a national campaign to help raise the profile of heart rhythm disorders and help prevent strokes.
NHS staff are sharing this year’s campaign message ‘Your heart in your hands’ to help awareness of heart rhythm disorder and help people to recognise any symptoms or health risks.
“We know that more than 6,600 people in the district have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AF) and we estimate that another 500 people could have this condition. By asking people to take some simple steps, it could ultimately save their life,” said local GP Dr Matthew Fay, national lead for AF and stroke prevention.
