An iconic fish and chips restaurant is set to open its doors again on Tuesday.
The original Harry Ramsden’s restaurant at White Cross, Guiseley, will be re-launched under the ownership of the Wetherby Whaler group, who have spent £500,000 on refurbishing the building and have promised to return it to its glory days.
It is believed Harry Ramsden’s daughter and granddaughter are guests of honour and will travel from Ireland for the re-opening.
Also invited are twin sisters who featured in a book about the restaurant when they attended a celebration there in 1952. The sisters, Mavis and Wendy Raistrick, had walked from their home in Horsforth to be first in line when the restaurant marked its 21st anniversary by selling fish and chips at the original price.
Earlier this year, Wetherby Whaler group founder, Philip Murphy, stepped in to save the restaurant, which opened in 1931, after Boparan Ventures, which owns the Harry Ramsden’s brand, announced it was closing the site.
