More than 200 years of Bradford’s textile heritage will be brought to life after a community centre secured nearly £47,700 in funding for a new project.

Community arts organisation the Hive, based at the Kirkgate Centre, Shipley, has organised The Fabric of Bradford project, which will involve visitors using traditional textile and dying processes. The project will help young and old people, families and those who have experienced mental health distress explore the history of textiles using techniques such as growing natural dye plants and looking at modern textile products.

It has been made possible after the Heritage Lottery Fund provided £47,700 for the group to explore how Bradford was transformed into the worsted fabric capital of the world.

Project manager Joy Hart said: “We are very excited to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident the project will engage the local community in their history in a fun and innovative way”
