A 20-year-old man has died after being struck by a car as he stopped for a toilet break on his way home from a day out.

The incident happened near the Red Bus Cafe on the A64, near Leeds, as the victim, from Yeadon, travelled home from York as part of group in a minibus.

It is believed he could have been returning from a stag party, which had stopped at the layby for a toilet break.

The woman driving the Astra, stopped after incident and was spoken to by officers, but was allowed to leave the scene without any further action. West Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident and flowers have been laid at the spot where the man died.

He has not yet been named by police.

A spokesman for the force said: “He had been part of a group travelling back from York to Leeds in a minibus which had stopped.

“The woman driver stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers.”

The spokesman said anyone who had witnessed the incident, or the moments leading up to the collision, was being asked to contact the police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team on (01924) 293047 or via the non-emergency number 101.
