A Jet2 flight from Leeds Bradford Airport was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger died on board.

The incident happened on the LS195 flight from the Yeadon airport to Prague, in the Czech Republic, on Friday evening.

During the trip one passenger, believed to be a 22-year-old man, suffered serious breathing difficulties as the plane was travelling north of Dusseldorf, in Germany.

The pilot made an emergency diversion to Dusseldorf, but it is believed the man had already died before the plane could land and emergency treatment could be administered by staff on the ground.

No details have been confirmed about the passenger, although he is thought to be from England.

Last night, a spokesman for Jet2.com confirmed a passenger had died and passed on condolences to his family.

“We can confirm that a passenger did sadly pass away on Friday on board the Leeds flight to Prague and we extend our sincere condolences to his family at this very sad time,” the spokesman said.

“Because of this medical emergency, the flight had to be diverted to Dusseldorf where passengers were looked after and comforted.

“The flight continued to Prague later that evening.”

No-one from Jet2.com could confirm the man’s nationality or age, or any action taken by staff or cabin crew to try to save him The company could also not confirm whether the man died from an incident on the plane or a pre-existing condition.

It is understood the plane, a Boeing 737-300, arrived in the Czech Republic about six hours later than scheduled.
