A 24-year-old man caught with a £38,000 stash of drugs money and dozens of street deals of heroin and crack cocaine has been jailed for four years.

Mohammed Riaz had been back to his former school, Challenge College in Frizinghall, to warn students of the dangers of getting involved in drug dealing, since pleading guilty, a Court heard.

Riaz, of Ryan Street, West Bowling, Bradford, admitted possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply and possession of drugs money as criminal property.

Prosecutor Emma Downing told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that police searched his home at 8am on May 12 last year.

They found the key to a Volkswagen Polo under his pillow and seized class A drugs with a £7,500 street value from the vehicle.

Officers then searched another house in the street and discovered Riaz had hidden £38,960 in an attic bedroom.

Miss Downing said the bank notes had a higher-than-normal heroin contamination.

Riaz told the police he was looking after the drugs for someone else who had made threats against members of his family.

Riaz’s solicitor Ray Singh conceded that he was a trusted custodian of the cash.

While on bail awaiting sentence, he had voluntarily gone back to Challenge College to warn students not to follow his path into the world of drugs.

Mr Singh said Riaz acted bravely when he stood up in front of the pupils to confess what he had done.

He was from a highly-respectable, hard-working family. No relative had ever been arrested by the police and he had brought shame on them.

“He will take his punishment and, hopefully, come back stronger,” Mr Singh said.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told Riaz: “You come from a family of the highest standing and everyone finds your offending completely unbelievable and out of character.”
