Firefighters from Odsal and Elland were sent to Whitehall Road, near Lightcliffe Golf Club to reports of a shed fire at 10.17am.
Two more engines from Odsal and Halifax were scrambled to the scene when the blaze spread to pallets near the shed.
An acetylene cylinder was also believed to be in the same yard, promting police to close the road at 10.40am. The fire service has also sent a hazardous material environment protection officer to the incident, which remains on-going.
