Tens of thousands of visitors went through the doors of the National Media Museum during a record-breaking half-term for the Bradford attraction.

The museum’s Moshi Monsters activities, centred around one of the world’s fastest-growing online children’s brands, attracted 37,706 visitors – a 73.4 per cent increase compared to 2011.

The museum teamed up with Moshi Monsters – which has more than 50 million registered users worldwide – and Mind Candy, to help highlight online safety to families and children through workshops and activities.

The partnership with Moshi Monsters was the first in a series of activities linking in with the new Life Online Gallery, the world’s first gallery to explore the social, technological and cultural impact of the internet and the web which will be officially opened on March 30.

Sarah Mumford, head of learning at the museum, said: “The aim was to reinforce the ‘stay safe online’ message and to help families find out more about the social networking site whilst inspiring them to engage in practical animation and green screen activities.

“We are absolutely delighted to have received visits from families from Scotland to Plymouth, Bradford and even China for what was a truly marvellous week.”

Clare Wiggins, head of Moshi Live at Mind Candy, said: “This is the first of many fun and live experiences we are developing for 2012. We were thrilled to partner with the National Media Museum and to deliver this experience to a record-breaking number of Moshi Monsters fans.”

Moshi Monsters is a free-to-play world of adoptable pet monsters, combining adorable virtual pets with social online gameplay and engaging educational puzzles for children aged six to 12.

The brand appeals to both boys and girls on a variety of different levels. The site is filled with exciting characters, educational elements and nurturing play patterns.

Free Moshi Monsters activities can still be enjoyed at the museum this coming weekend with Moshi Monsters animation workshops sponsored by Clay Buddies, the chance to get acquainted with the game with online stations and an exciting Moshling treasure hunt around the museum.
