An author due to visit Bradford today has called for rights for children abandoned by their parents.
Alison Taft decided to use a family tracing service to track down her father after he left her the day she was born.
She has since written a novel after being frustrated by the lack of a response after he was contacted.
The novel, Our Father Who Art Out There... Somewhere explores what happens when Lily Appleyard goes off in search of her father.
She said: “At the time I was very angry. I felt I was owed the chance for one meeting, to discover information about my heritage.
“There is no protection or sense of redress for children abandoned by a parent.” Alison said. “It’s time for a change in the law.”
Alison will be at the Bradford branch of Waterstones today to sign copies of her novel.
