An elderly couple were rescued by firefighters after a blaze in their Bradford home.
They were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary suffering smoke inhalation after the fire in their bungalow in Markfield Avenue, Low Moor, at 8.45am today.
They had previously been given fire safety advice, which they followed, said Odsal fire station watch manager Chris Linley.
After being alerted by smoke alarms the woman stayed in the bathroom of the property and the man remained in the bedroom until they were led to safety by fire crews.
The cause of the fire, which was not thought to be suspicious, is under investigation.
“Had they not had smoke detectors they wouldn’t have been alerted and they probably wouldn’t be with us now,” said Mr Linley.
“They followed what we said when we’d given them a home fire safety check.”
