Boxing world champion Junior Witter was honoured at a civic reception yesterday.

Witter became Bradford's first boxing world champion when he brushed aside American challenger DeMarcus Corley to take the WBC world light-welterweight crown.

Passing youngsters excitedly pestered him for autographs as he posed for pictures outside City Hall yesterday.

He said: "It is really unreal to be here. I have been stopped a few times and have been asked for autographs.

"Quite a few people have been star-struck and that has been really weird. But I'm home. - and it feels good."

Speaking about his career, Witter said: "I am trying to fight again in December but I don't know who it will be or where.

"I am hoping to get Bradford or Sheffield, it is just a question of what turns up. If we can't do it then it will February in America."

The champ was on top form as he met the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Choudhary Rangzeb, in the Lord Mayor's Chambers.

Coun Rangzeb said: "I feel very honoured to have Junior here in City Hall.

"It is a tremendous achievement, not only for him, but also for Bradford and we are very proud of him.

"We wish him all the best and hope he goes from strength to strength and keeps winning titles for us."

The 32-year-old Undercliffe fighter was to be guest of honour at today's Bradford City game against Tranmere.
