A man needed hospital treatment after he was struck with a hammer by street muggers last night.

The 34-year-old victim was getting an ice scraper from the boot of his car, outside Walden Drive in Chellow Grange, Bradford, when he was approached by two Asian teenagers wirth their faces covered.

They demanded his mobile phone and when he refused one of the struck him in the face with what is believed to be a hammer.

The robbers then fled the scene empty-handed, chased for a short distance by the complainant.

The victim suffered superficial wounds. He was treated at hospital bit not detained.

Acting Detective Inspector Stuart Lyons, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said: “Fortunately, the injuries suffered by the victim were not as serious as they might have been, given that a weapon appears to have been used.

“We are eager for any witnesses to the robbery, or anyone with any knowledge about the suspects, to come forward.”

The first suspect was aged 14 or 15, skinny, 5ft 4ins tall, and was wearing a balaclava-style hat with an open face, black jacket and dark jeans. His accomplice, who had the hammer, was Asian, skinny, 6ft tall, with a black scarf covering his lower face and was wearing a black hooded top.
