Sharing cups of tea and freshly-made pakoras is helping two groups of women in Keighley bridge their cultural differences.
Keighley Soroptimists and a group of mums from Eastwood Primary School of Pakistani origin have been meeting in the school’s family centre in Lawkholme every Thursday.
Since stating the initiative earlier this year the two groups of women have swapped traditional skills and stories about their lives.
Many of the Asian mums have taken up knitting and crochet while the Soroptimists have learned to make pakoras and samosas.
The Soroptimists’ aim is to empower and raise the status of women. Mrs Hughes, 79, said the project in Keighley was meant to encourage community cohesion and improve self-confidence of the mums.
