Masked robbers, armed with a handgun, escaped with a significant amount of cash, following a raid at a Bradford bookies’ shop.

Two male members of staff were working alone in the Betfred shop, in Tong Street, when the raiders burst in with what appeared to be a handgun, according to police.

The masked men demanded money and threatened the two members of staff, before stealing a large amount of takings from the till and fleeing on foot with the cash.

The employees were uninjured during the incident but were left badly shocked.

The robbery happened at around 8.50pm on Monday, while the shop was still open, though there were no customers at the time.

Detective Inspector Mark Long, of Bradford South CID, who is leading the investigation, said: “No actual violence was used during the robbery, but the suspects were in possession of what appeared to be a handgun and they threatened the staff. It was a terrifying experience for them."
