A Bradford singer was flown to a top recording studio in Los Angeles after she was spotted busking by a collaborator of rap star Kanye West.

Anita Maj is currently recording her debut album and one of the tracks has been selected for the latest edition of computer game Rockband, which has previously featured songs by acts such as Metallica, Miley Cyrus and Journey. Anita was busking on the London Underground when she was discovered by rapper, musician, and producer Malik Yusef, who works with artists such as Kanye West.

Anita, 27, who grew up in Heaton and went to Bradford Girls’ Grammar School, said: “Malik really liked my songs and said he wanted to work with me. I was flown out to LA to work in this massive studio that has been used by artists like Jimi Hendrix and Lady Ga Ga. It was a huge shock, as I’d been used to working on my material at home, sending it out online.”

Her music is described as ‘feisty power-pop fused with the Bangles, Suzi Quatro and Pink’.
