A new discount store set to open in Bradford this week will create about 40 new jobs.

The Discount UK outlet at the Forster Square retail park will open on Friday.

It comes hot on the heels of the recently-opened Poundworld Express store in Ivegate – the first UK convenience store launched by the discount chain – which brought 15 jobs to the city centre.

Meanwhile, eight staff are facing the axe at a children’s discount clothing store which is set to close less than two years after being rescued by its current owners. The DKZ shop on Broadway is expected to close in February.

Bargain retailer Discount UK says its new Bradford outlet will be aimed at cash-strapped shoppers. It will sell leading brands such as Cadbury’s, Coca Cola and Johnson’s and sell many lines at £1 or less. Its range includes household essentials, textiles, toiletries and groceries.

Chris Edwards Junior, Discount UK trading director, said: “Bradford is a great city and we’re very excited to be opening our first store here. Discount UK aims to offer the best possible value and so we hope it will prove a big hit with savvy shoppers in the city who are seeking better deals and bigger savings to combat the rising cost of everyday living.

“We look forward to welcoming shoppers in Bradford and invite them to take advantage of the deep-cut offers available on everyday essentials such as toothpaste and toasters, as well as specialised products including seasonal decorations, fashion accessories and toys.”
