Police are appealing for witnesses after suspected gunshots were fired at a car on a Bradford street.

It is thought up to four shots were discharged before the vehicle was driven away at speed. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Officers were yesterday examining glass in the road at the scene of the shooting in Thorn Street, Girlington.

Police were alerted at around 7.30pm on Monday to reports of shots being fired in Thorn Street. It is believed a man discharged a firearm towards a dark-coloured vehicle which then made away from the area at speed.

Superintendent Angela Williams, of Bradford South Police, said: “We are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward immediately. It is important that we quickly identify the man who has fired the weapon and likewise the occupants of the vehicle which made away.

“If you have any information which could help in our investigations, please contact the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.”

A section of Thorn Street remained cordoned off yesterday with a police guard at either end.

The scene is a few hundred yards from where shots were recently fired into the air from a car parked in Girlington Road.

Police said there was nothing at this stage to suggest a connection to any previous firearms incident in the area.

But Supt Williams said: “Investigations are at an early stage and we would not rule anything out.”
