Restaurant chain Nando’s is moving into Centenary Square and taking over most of the ground floor of the building currently occupied by Chino Thai.

Signs have gone up in the windows at the key city centre site signalling the company’s intention to move into the Aldermanbury building.

The company already operates a restaurant in Bradford at the Leisure Exchange.

A planning application has been submitted by Nando’s to change the shopfront of the building, which includes installing oak cladding to the front, an etched chilli pattern to the existing stainless steel panel at the side, and six advertising signs, “in keeping with the scale and design of the building”.

Councillor David Green, the council’s executive member for regeneration, welcomed the investment.

He said: “From discussions that we have had, work on the City Park has been a drawn for this firm and I am sure will be a draw for other firms thinking of relocating. That’s part of the reason why the money was spent on the City Park.”
