Two Bradford College students have got a helping hand into the animation world after they won the chance to be mentored by three big names in the industry.

The students were selected after they won a prestigious animation competition in conjunction with Bradford’s Animation Festival and the National Media Museum to find the most promising student from the College’s School of Arts and Media.

The event was the gala opening of the festival which runs until tomorrow.

Stephen Lubbock, 24, won the award for the Higher Education category, while Michael Laprocina, 43, won the accolade for the Further Education category.

The pair will now be mentored by Oscar and Bafta-nominated animator and director Barry Purves, Emmy-winning animator Joanna Quinn and Bafta-nominated television and film writer Chris Shepherd who between them have notched up credits such as King Kong, Mars Attacks, Plume, Tchaikovsky, Britannia and the Wife of Bath.

Mr Lubbock, 24, said: “I’m ecstatic. It’s a great opportunity to get my work out there. I’m grateful for being given this amazing opportunity to be mentored by these animation legends. It’s really inspiring.”
