Long-stay parking charges are to rise by 50p a day in an effort to raise an extra £90,000 to help ease Bradford Council’s budget.

A total of 17 Council-owned car parks across the district are to have their all- day charges increased, some from £3.50 to £4 – a 14.2 per cent rise – and others from £3 to £3.50 – 16.67 per cent.

The move is based on a decision made in February during the authority’s budget negotiations. It is hoped the extra charges will bring in a further £89,200 a year, with key car parks – the Crown Court location in Bradford and the Scott Street one in Keighley – expected to raise an extra £13,000 each.

The new charges are to come into force in less than a fortnight’s time and will not apply to the hourly rates which will remain at 60p an hour in Bradford and 50p an hour in towns across the district.

The decision over which locations will be hit with the extra charges was signed off last week by Ian Bairstow, the Council’s strategic director for environment and sport, in line with the decision in principal approved by councillors in February.
