I see former Bantams – and everywhere else – striker Steve Claridge is scoring goals again at the grand age of 45.

On the day when I’ll be interviewing a manager younger than myself at Swindon, it’s good to see him striking a blow for all us oldies.

Claridge has been at a bit of a loose end since his BBC Saturday night shifts were cut back so he got in touch with local club Gosport Borough.

He made his debut coming off the bench in the FA Trophy – and promptly bagged the winner against Sholing.

It’s amazing to think Claridge began his pro career at Bournemouth back in 1984 before many of the present-day players were even born!

Over 1,000 games later and he is still as passionate as ever to play on.

He was doing double training sessions for ten days to get himself fit enough for his first appearance back!

City fans never saw the best of him. Claridge’s spell at Valley Parade wasn’t the happiest and he slaughtered Colin Todd’s tactics in his autobiography.

But I bet he’s a smash hit in the Southern League South & West, even at twice the age of a lot of his opponents. And maybe Claridge’s comeback will spark a trend from the TV studio back to the pitch.

I wonder if City might consider a call to a couple of pundits named Windass and Beagrie?
