An historic hall and a luxury lodges park in the Bradford district were crowned as being among the best tourist attractions in Yorkshire at an awards ceremony last night.

East Riddlesden Hall in Keighley and Faweather Grange in High Eldwick, near Bingley, were two of the winners at the tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards – the biggest tourism awards in the UK.

The luxury cabin site took home the prize for Best Caravan Holiday Park/Holiday Village, while East Riddlesden Hall won the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year award.

Bradford Council, the organiser of Bingley Music Live, narrowly missed out on the Tourism Event of the Year award, which was claimed by the Larkin With Toads project in Hull.

Nearly 1,000 people from the tourism industry gathered at Doncaster Racecourse for the award ceremony.

The awards recognise an industry which is bucking UK trends in terms of visits and spend. Holiday visits to Yorkshire were up by 16 per cent from January to May, compared to a three per cent decrease nationally.

The Independent Passenger Survey also revealed overseas visitor spend soared during the summer months, doubling from £33 million to £59 million in two years.
