Detectives are hunting the driver of a second car which was at the scene of a road crash in which a 22-year-old Bradford cyclist was killed.

A 23-year-old man was last night in police custody after he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the tragedy early yesterday.

The cyclist was riding towards Shipley along the A650 Canal Road when he was in involved in a collision with a blue Audi RS3 sports car outside the Tesco superstore at about 1.45am.

Emergency services, including an ambulance and a rapid- response car, were sent to the scene in an attempt to save his life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Audi was arrested and the high-powered car was taken away for examination, police said.

Police accident investigators cordoned off both sides of the road as detailed examination of the scene was carried out.

The cyclist’s badly-damaged bike was also recovered.

The city centre-bound lane of the dual carriageway was later opened.

A cordon remained in place for nearly six hours on the opposite side between Kings Road and Valley Road, while forensic officers searched the area. The road was re-opened to traffic shortly after 7am yesterday.

The investigation is being carried out by the Major Collisions and Enquiries Team (MCET)at West Yorkshire Police.

Officers have urged any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “In particular, we would like to speak to the driver of another car thought to be present at the scene when the collision happened.”
