Details of a day to celebrate the best of Bradford have been revealed for the first time.

After months of planning and expressions of interest from more than 500 organisations and individuals, Positive Bradford Day will be held across two sites in the city centre on Wednesday, September 28, between noon and 7pm.

Community groups, business leaders, schools and other organisations are collaborating on the Positive Bradford not-for-profit initiative, on a voluntary basis, with a goal to improve Bradford’s image.

The Positive Bradford Day is the group’s first marquee event to further that aim and a member of the Royal Family has been invited to attend to add to its prestige.

Musicians will take to a main stage in Centenary Square and theatrical performances and poetry readings will take place on a stage in the Urban Garden. More than 100 entertainers are expected to perform, including an African refugee choir and bands. Eighteen-year-old guitar player and singer Bella Gaffney will also take to the stage to perform a number entitled Centenary Square.

The area outside City Hall will be split into zones, in which there will be activities to represent particular elements of Bradford’s culture and success.

Bradford City and Bradford Bulls coaches will run sports sessions, there will be craft demonstrations, a vintage car display and farmers’ market stallholders have been invited.

Saleem Kader, co-founder of Positive Bradford and managing director of Bombay Stores, said: “Arrangements are really coming together with more than 500 organisations that have signed up to take part.”

Mr Saleem’s counterpart, Jane Vincent, boss of recruitment agency Candelisa People, said: “There is so much really good stuff going on involving different groups around Bradford so we are trying to show that.”
