A Bradford-born artist will bring the night-time glow of the woods into the heart of the city as part of the Illuminate arts festival.

Five light boxes of Liza Dracup's photographs of Sharpe's Wood, a secret location on the outskirts of Bradford, will appear in the city centre between Friday, October 6, and Sunday, October 15.

According to the artist, they offer Bradfordians the chance to look at their own landscape in a new way.

The former Bingley Grammar School pupil said: "In Bradford you're never too far away from open spaces. There's a lot of Bradford that's semi-rural. I used available light to take the photos - car lights, street light, the moon. Every time you go out it's different."

The exhibition launch is part of Bradford's Light Night on October 6 - the climax of Illuminate, a year long festival of culture in Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York.

During the afternoon, Centenary Square will become a Global Bazaar, with yurts, tents, markets, street entertainers and activities.

At 7pm, Bradford City Hall will be bathed in colourful light when renowned artist Patrice Warrener projects one of his light shows onto the building, and Impossible Theatre will stage a light installation. All events are free.

Lit up throughout the night, Liza's light boxes will enable the viewer "to connect with the artist's method of capturing these images between dusk and dawn."

The locations of the light boxes is yet to be confirmed but they are expected to be in the Centenary Square area.

Liza, 38, works as a photography lecturer on Bradford College's art and design foundation course - which she attended as a young artist.

She has been taking photos of Bradford landscapes throughout her career, and is delighted to have a collection about the city in the city.

She is keeping the exact location of the wood under wraps because it is on private land.

"This is the best body of work I've produced," she said. "The camera has unlocked a different world to the eye."

The presentation offers a taster of Liza's forthcoming exhibition of large scale photographs of Sharpe's Wood, which will be the inaugural show at Bradford's new Impressions Gallery, Centenary Square, next spring.

The exhibition will then tour nationally.
