Ice-cool Ryan Atkins has dreamt about scoring the winning try against his former Bulls team-mates and saving Wakefield's Super League lives.

The sides meet head-on tonight with the Wildcats knowing defeat will see them relegated from the top flight.

They have only won once at Grattan Stadium in Super League history and any success may still not be enough to prevent the drop.

Young centre Atkins could see his first return since leaving the champions turn into a real nightmare if they are beaten.

But the only long faces he is expecting to see at the end of 80 minutes are Bradford ones.

"I'm not even thinking about losing," he blasted. "I think we're going to win.

"Given the way we've been performing recently and the fact Bradford are not firing on all cylinders, we know we can.

"It's going to be tough and I reckon both sides will go back to basics. They'll be wanting to do all the little things right and it could turn into a real arm wrestle.

"I'm looking forward to going back and hopefully I'll score the winning try.

"That would be nice, although a hat-trick with my third being the clincher would be better!

"It is a bit of a dream but then you have got to dream, haven't you?"

Academy product Atkins had never even featured in the Super League when he departed for Wakefield in a £10,000 deal.

But in the ensuing five months he has quickly developed into one of the most exciting players around after getting regular first-team football at Belle Vue.

The 20-year-old has notched 12 tries, proved a big hit with Wakefield fans and even won an England call-up last month.

"That was brilliant," he said. "Now though I've got to keep fit and keep progressing every week as I am still learning.

"This is still a new game to me and everything has happened so fast. It could be my downfall so I need to keep my feet on the ground."

Atkins maintains Wildcats are still confident of escaping the mire and said: "There's been no pressure on us. We see it as a game we must win but if we start thinking too much we'll just waste loads of nervous energy.

"Everyone knows we're a good attacking team and we've tightened up our defence now so hopefully we can do to Bradford just what Wigan did."

The Bulls are reeling after a morale-zapping 38-16 walloping at the JJB Stadium a week ago and Wakefield are looking to follow up with a knockout punch of their own.
