Young runners are being urged to limber up and stretch their legs for charity by taking part in Bradford’s second half-marathon.

A silver trophy lies in wait for the school that turns out the largest contingent of joggers for the City Run on Sunday, October 2. Primary and secondary schools looking to enter will have to wrestle the Schools’ Cup from reigning trophy holders, Grange Technology College.

The winning school will also win the title of Bradford’s ‘Best Running School of the Year’.

Simon Price, a former University of Bradford student, donated the cup.

About 2,000 people took part in last year’s run.

The event involves a 13.1-mile half-marathon, following a route from the Alhambra Theatre in the city centre, through semi-rural Thornton and Denholme to Sandy Lane and the finishing line in Lister Park.

The park will also be hosting a fun run and entertainment.

Councillor Ghazanfer Khaliq, Bradford Council’s executive member responsible for sport and leisure, said: “The City Run is a great opportunity for local schools to get involved and encourage children to pursue outdoor activities and enjoy regular exercise.

“Schools can opt to run in fancy dress or use the event as a way of raising funds for their chosen charity.”

The Bradford City Run is organised as part of Bradford Gold, a programme aimed at maximizing the Sporting, Cultural and Business benefits of the London 2012 Olympics.
