Professor David Rhodes, the successful academic and industrialist, founded Shipley wireless communications company Filtronic.

Originally Filtronic Components, the company has been supplying electronic defence systems for more than 30 years and is regarded as a world leader in the design and manufacture of electronic warfare components and systems.

The Shipley factory designs and produces the broadest range of devices and systems of any firm of its kind in Europe.

Born in 1943, Professor Rhodes is the recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s highest award, the Prince Philip Medal, in recognition of his work on mobile communications and defence electronic equipment.
