A programme of musical events, theatre, dance, children's activities and a classic vehicle show will form part of the entertainment during a popular summer festival.

Tickets for next month’s Burley-in-Wharfedale Summer Festival go on sale on Monday, July 18, with organisers warning they will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Now in its third year, the festival was started by Burley Parish Council and is supported by Burley-in-Wharfedale Community Trust and the Burley and District Chamber of Trade. The event is organised by volunteers from across the village and parish councillors.

This year's festival gets underway on Saturday, August 20, with a wide variety of attractions lined up for the following seven days, including a one-day Beer and Cider Festival on the final day of the event.

And this year’s show will be running alongside the Farmers’ Market, an Art and Crafts market, the Burley Art Club Annual Show, a drystone walling workshop, children’s activities and a brass band in the village park, while large crowds are expected to visit the village on Sunday, August 21, for the annual Classic Vehicles Show.

Music and theatre fans will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities throughout the week, including an opera evening with Sarah Estill and Ben Kerslake, the Kelsey Quartet together with the principal oboist of the BBC Philharmonic, orchestra, a choral evening with the Fairfax Singers and a host of bands.

Bradford-based theatre group 'Paperzoo' will be performing Dennis Potter's Blue Remembered Hills, while Burley Theatre Group is offering an Evening of For dance fans, there will be the popular Tea Dance, Zumba and Morris Dancing workshops, among others.

A team of volunteers will deliver festival programmes to every household in Burley during the next two weeks and further copies will be available in libraries across the district and information centres.

Festival details and booking forms can also be found on the festival link on the Burley website burley-in-wharfedale.org.
