Family loyalty will disappear as ruthless Bulls forward Brett Ferres strives to condemn his own uncle to relegation.

If his side defeat desperate Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Grattan Stadium tomorrow night, the doomed visitors are out of Super League.

Wildcats chief executive Steve Ferres is clinging on to the hope they can hatch their own Great Escape.

They need to win both their final two games but even that might not be enough if rivals Castleford and Harlequins win this weekend.

And Ferres's nephew won't be offering any favours.

"I'll be sorry for them if we win and they do go down but that's just the way it is," said Brett.

"I don't think I'll be getting a Christmas card off my Uncle Steve but what can you do?

"I don't reckon he will hold a grudge if anything does happen.

"He's come in late and is doing the best job he can at Wakefield."

Ferres, who was in charge when Wildcats won promotion eight years ago, returned for his second stint as CEO in March but despite some improvements the club is still on the brink.

The 52-year-old former Huddersfield, York and Hunslet boss has had a big bearing on Brett's own career.

"He's always come down to watch me and help me out," said the Bradford youngster. "I've a really good family who have always given me support but Steve had a lot of input when I first started out. He thought joining Bradford was the right decision for me and everything is going well here.

"I'm just glad I had someone like that to talk to if I ever had any problems.

"It's nice not to always have to go to your coach and Steve has been there for me."

Ferres rang his nephew only last week to congratulate the player on a deserved England call-up.

But the Wakefield man might not want to speak tomorrow night if the visitors' worst fears are confirmed and Ferres junior helps shove the Wildcats out of Super League.

Ferres reckons their could be some split loyalties in the family camp.

"My dad is my fan and supports me wherever I'm playing and my mum's the same," said the 20-year-old.

"I'm not sure about my Grandad Jack though - he's Steve's dad so I don't know where he'll lie!"

And the family connections aren't confined to the Ferreses - Bulls hooker Ian Henderson will line-up against his elder brother Kevin.
