More than 300 Bradford primary schoolchildren who made short films of a world record-breaking challenge will be watching their work at the National Media Museum on Monday.

Pictureville Cinema will have a full house for the early afternoon screening of highlights from nine 15-minute films in a City of Film project costing around £10,000.

Each of the films was researched and then shot on location in nine northern cities, from Liverpool to Durham, in support of Andy McMenemy’s Challenge 66.

Extreme athlete Mr McMenemy ran 66 marathons in 66 cities in 66 days between March 16 and May 23. The second was in Bradford.

The Kirkgate Centre joined forces with Education Bradford to pay for the project involving pupils at nine Bradford primary schools – Allerton, Sacred Heart, Bankfoot, All Saints C of E, St James’s Church, Newall Park, Ryecroft, Sandy Lane and Lapage.

Mr McMenemy was accompanied on part of a run by Nathan Kevins, ten, of Sacred Heart Primary – the cameraman for the Bradford film, directed by Adam Potter.

It was former City of Film director Peg Alexander who inspired the film project with a talk attended by Catherine Riley and Sally Coleman, of Education Bradford.

Kirkgate Centre manager Cath-erine Riley said: “After talks with Catherine Halliwell and the Enterprise team at Education Bradford we came up with the idea of year 5 and 6 children acting as Andy’s tour guides for nine of the cities.’’
