Three teenagers were robbed of their mobile phones at knifepoint by a gang of masked youths in a Bradford park.

The boys were walking home through Wibsey Park when a gang of older teenagers, wearing balaclavas to conceal their faces, ambushed them.

One of the robbers produced a knife and held it to the side of one of the boys, aged 15, and frisked him down.

The terrified victim handed over his Blackberry mobile phone and his wallet containing a bank card and a small amount of change.

The other two boys were also forced to surrender their mobile phones.

They were then allowed to run off and fled to a fish and chip shop where police were called by the owner.

The robbers, at least three males, are believed to have left the park via Reevy Road.

The 15-year-old boy’s grandmother, 55, who did not want to be named and is a local neighbourhood watch group co-ordinator, said: “I’m angry. I want everyone to be aware of this and I want to push for more police in this area.

“My grandson is still shocked by what happened but fortunately he wasn’t injured.” A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the robbery, which occurred at about 10.20pm on Friday, was being investigated by detectives in Bradford South CID who have appealed for information about the offenders.

He said: “One of the group produced a knife and demanded the phones, which two of the boys handed over. The other boy tried to run away but fell over, suffering minor grazes and bruising, and then handed over his phone.

“The boys ran out of the park, and the three males are believed to have left the park via the Reevy Road exit.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information which can assist inquiries is asked to contact Bradford South CID via 0845 6060606.”
