Open air table tennis has arrived in Skipton – and Craven District Council hopes it will be a hit.

As part of its run-up to next year’s Olympics, the council is introducing al fresco table tennis at Aireville Park. The outdoor table, bought with £800 from the National Sport Unlimited scheme, is situated outside the entrance to Craven Pool and balls will cost 20p.

“Ping pong is probably the only sport where you can be a complete novice, pick up a bat and have fun,” said Councillor John Roberts, pictured watching Lloyd Hancox, leisure service manager at Craven Pool, Aireville Park, Skipton, having a knock around. Coun Roberts added: “We hope that this outdoor tennis table will be enjoyed by all of the community.’’
