Police have warned that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated after a teenager was banned by magistrates from entering a part of Bradford.

As reported in yesterday’s Telegraph & Argus, Roman Arlauskas, 18, of Basil Street, Canterbury, Bradford, was made the subject of a two-year Asbo banning him from Manningham.

The order also prohibits him from acting, or inciting others to act, in an anti-social manner, including being abusive, swearing and making threats of violence, and from having contact in public with his associates Abdullah Chunara, Sohaib Mahmood, Arsian Mahmood and Dhaniel Mahmood, all 16.

Inspector Esther Hobbs, of Bradford District Safer Neighbourhoods Partnership, said: “I hope that this order against Arlauskas will reassure people who have been affected that such actions will not be tolerated and they will be dealt with.

“We are committed to robustly tackling anti-social behaviour across Bradford and delivering the best service we can to residents.”

Councillor Mohammad Amin (Lab, Manningham) also applauded the order.

He said: “We can’t afford to have these sort of idiots going around in our communities doing whatever they like.

“People want to live in a peaceful civilised society. The court made the right decision and justice has been done.”

John Crosland, anti-social behaviour officer for Bradford Council, said: “This youth has caused intimidation and harassment to residents, businesses and visitors in the Manningham area of Bradford.

“Since an interim Asbo was granted on May 4, 2011, he appears to have complied and no further anti-social behaviour has been reported.

“The Council and West Yorkshire Police believe the Asbo is necessary as without it Roman Arlauskas could revert back to his anti-social behaviour.”

Figures for January to March this year show that incidents of anti-social behaviour in the Bradford South Division have gone down by 27 per cent compared to the same period in 2010.

Insp Hobbs said: “Although it is committed by a small number of people, anti-social behaviour can affect the quality of life for many.

“We have worked in close partnership with Bradford Council, the local neighbourhood policing team and the community to prepare this case.

“Our priority continues to be the support of victims and witnesses and if any members of the public suffer anti-social behaviour they can contact the police on 0845 6060606.”
