A builder has constructed an additional career for himself as an artist.
Sculpture by Ilkley’s Ken Jaquiery will go on display on Friday and on Saturday, June 18, at Lower Winskill Farm, near Settle, as part of the North Yorkshire Open Studios scheme.
Ken is originally from New Zealand, but married an English woman and settled in Ilkley.
He attended a sculpture course in Malham four years ago run by Sarah Smith, one of the other artists who will be exhibiting her work at the farm visitor centre.
Now he is studying for a diploma at Harrogate College alongside running his building business.
Sarah said: “Ken has taken a huge step to not only take the time out of his building work to find his creative side, but also in creating his own studio in Ilkley and now showing his work to the public for the first time.”
He will be demonstrating his skills with clay, using a coiling technique.
Ken’s previous work has including 3-D pieces based on the traditions of the Maori people, who used bone, shell and stone to create tools and jewellery.
