Jarrow Roofing Bolden 5 Thackley 4

It was a fruitless journey to the north east as Thackley spent all their winnings from the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on this follow-up trip and ended up losing out in a nine-goal thriller.

There are those who will say the Bradford side brought their problems on themselves after being 3-0 up inside 12 minutes. However, there will be as many who point to the dismissal of Thackley skipper Craig Sugden as the pivotal moment.

Lee Reilly opened the scoring with a firm drive from eight yards and a good move involving Joel Etienne, Dean Walters and Reilly was ended with a superb shot from Andy King for the second, before Walters added the third from the edge of the area.

Reilly should have netted a fourth before the home side got a foothold from a neatly-worked corner, with Ibrahim Hussain lashing a shot into top corner.

A poor clearance by Thackley dropped to Paul Chow to reduce the deficit further but Reilly made it 4-2 after the visitors had forced a 26th-minute corner.

Then came the game-changing red card as Sugden was deemed the last defender following a 42nd-minute foul and Craig Russell netted the penalty.

Craig Nelson equalised from long range early in the second half but then Paul Wardle only received a yellow card for a similar offence to Sugden.

Reilly got to his feet to try for his hat-trick from the penalty spot but his shot was saved by keeper Gary Hoggets and the tie was then settled for the hosts by a 20-yard volley from Chow.
