Six people were being held for questioning by detectives last night about the fatal stabbing of a man after a house party in Cleckheaton.

A 19-year old Cleckheaton woman and a 21-year-old Dewsbury man, who was arrested yesterday, join four others in custody who were arrested over the weekend – they are two 19-year-old men, a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman.

The victim, named by police as 50-year-old Peter Brocklesby, was stabbed to death shortly before 1am on Saturday.

An argument had broken out at a house party, in Brooklyn Road, and Mr Brocklesby had been asked for help, police believe. He was then approached in the street by a group of men and women before he was stabbed in his back.

Mr Brocklesby had moved to the area a few months ago after being released from jail after serving 14 years of a 22-year sentence, neighbours said.

He was jailed alongside his brother David in March 1997 following an eight-week trial at Leeds Crown Court. The court was told how the pair ran a drugs gang in Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, dealing heroin and crack cocaine.

Police believe there were a large number of people in the area at the time of Saturday’s attack. Witnesses or anyone with information should call the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 0845 6060606, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
