Residents in a block of flats have been left without hot water and heating for more than ten days – with no word about when it will be fixed.

Martyn Hartlebury, 27, of St Mary Magdalene’s Close, Manningham, said the boiler at the block – which is shared by about 20 flats – has not been working properly since a fire on Thursday, April 21.

Mr Hartlebury, who lives at the flat with his wife Rachel, said: “There was smoke in our flat because of the pipe work, smoke was coming into people’s flats.

“We’ve not heard from Manningham Housing Association when it will be fixed. It is disappointing. We’ve not had a letter from them.”

He said electricians had been to look at the boiler on Tuesday, who were unable to tell him when it would be fixed.

Although he assumed the workers had been sent by the housing association, Mr Hartlebury said the residents were not being kept informed of any developments.

Mr Hartlebury said he had tried three or four times to phone the housing association, on days which were not Bank Holidays.

He said each time he was told he needed to speak to a housing officer, who would not be available until May 9. “There’s a three month old baby in the flats,” said Mr Hartlebury. “He’s a little boy. His mum is not happy.

“With having no hot water, I need to shower at my parents’ house. They’ve not provided us with heaters.

“We’re having to boil pans of water and kettles to have baths, it all adds up.

“I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall all the time.”

No-one from Manningham Housing Association was available for comment. On its website it says of its repair service: “The association has a set of targets for completion of work, which reflects good practice, deals efficiently with a variety of repair problems and includes a 24-hour emergency repair service.”
