Bradford Council is continuing to examine the possibility of introducing new technology such as e-books at libraries across the district.
Due to the fact that a number of commercial companies provide lending collections of e-books, a procurement process will be undertaken to identify the most suitable provider for the Bradford district.
Councillor Ian Greenwood, leader of Bradford Council, said: “A lending service for e-books should be a key element in the public library service for the future – providing access to reading material for customers who find it more convenient to access books on-line.
The take-up of e-book readers is increasing – a recent survey indicated that 13 per cent of adults own an e-reader although there are still significant issues of compatibility between the various reading devices and the e-book suppliers.”
