A garden in the district featuring mosaics and a procession of wooden animals will be showcased during a national open day.

The ‘Garden of Creation’ in Burley-in-Wharfedale, which was thought up by local designer Helen Taylor, is one of just ten around the country to be selected by the Society of Garden Designers be open to the public on Sunday, May 1.

The garden is at Burley’s Methodist Church and is heavily used by children from the Little School pre-school nursery, which operates from the church.

Funding from Bradford Council helped pay for the development of the garden, which features a generous lawn and seating and planting areas in the sun and shade.

There are also several mosaics, made by David James from Ilkley, and a Noah’s ark wooden mural on one of the walls, created by Lewis Morgan.

The garden has been named the Garden of Creation because of the series of mosaic panels, which tell the Bible story of the creation.

The wooden animals were developed and made by Mr Morgan using mixed reclaimed hardwoods.

“The children are delighted by their new grounds, because now they have a large lawn to play on, sensory planting, seating areas in the garden, and a wildlife garden to study nature,” said Mrs Taylor.
