Images comparing existing wind turbines at Chelker Reservoir, near Addingham, with the bigger structures proposed are being used in a protest campaign by Addingham Civic Society.

Kelda Water Services is proposing replacing the 45-metre-high turbines with three 80-metre high structures.

The sister company of Bradford-based Yorkshire Water says the existing turbines are worn out and the new ones would be used to provide electricity for two water pumping stations.

In its objections to the plans, the civic society warns that the size of the new turbines would make them “very visible from many aspects of Addingham”.

The plans, which have been submitted to Craven District Council, will be discussed at a special meeting of Draughton Parish Council in the village hall next Monday at 7.30pm.
