Researchers at the Bradford Institute for Health Research will showcase the world-class work being undertaken in the district at a conference next month.

The institute’s inaugural conference – Research into Practice – will take place in the Sovereign Lecture Theatre at Bradford Royal Infirmary on Wednesday, March 16.

During the day, Professor Dame Sally C Davies, director general of research and development and chief scientific advisor for the Department of Health and NHS, will officially open a £2.25 million extension to the research institute at Temple Bank House on the BRI site, which will house 70 research staff from the universities of Bradford, Leeds and York.

Professor Davies will also make one of the key note presentations on research in the NHS.

Professor John Wright, director of Bradford Institute for Health Research, said the conference would highlight how researchers are turning their work into practice and improving the health of local people.

“We are developing a world- class centre for medical research for the benefit of local people,” he said.

Prof Wright will join with Professor Neil Small to give a presentation on the Born in Bradford project, and other conference highlights include Professor Anne Forster on stroke research and how research trials are improving the care of patients, Professor John Young on community hospitals, Dr Rebecca Lawton on patient involvement in research, Dr Ghazala Mir on addressing depression in Muslim communities and Professor Des Tobin on Bradford as a centre of research excellence in skin sciences.
