A council will give no more money to backers of one of Ilkley’s best-loved venues until its future is clear.

The King’s Hall and Winter Gardens is one of dozens of public buildings across the Bradford district facing an uncertain future as spending cuts begin to bite.

Ilkley Parish Council has been warned the building could face being sold off when owner Bradford Council decides its budget later this month.

Now, parish councillors have agreed not to give any more money to the Friends of the King’s Hall and Winter Gardens until Bradford Council reveals its plans for the popular venue.

The Friends had applied for a grant of £7,000 to go towards the cost of chandeliers, wall lights, ceiling fittings, external display cases and repainting.

Councillor Kate Brown proposed a resolution to defer any King’s Hall applications until Bradford Council gave assurances about its future, which was backed by a majority of councillors.
